About the First Meal Ceremony Cuisine

The history of the weaning ceremony dates back to ancient times, with its origins traced to the "Shinogashi" ritual performed at the imperial court during the Heian period. It expresses prayers for the child's smooth transition from breastfeeding (independence) and healthy growth, along with the wish that they never lack for food throughout their life. Today, it is customary to celebrate around the time the child is three months old, either at a restaurant or at home.

Our restaurant offers a traditional meal set featuring whole sea bream with head and tail, clam soup, red rice, and pickled plums. The ceremonial pebble for the child's first solid food is traditionally picked from the grounds of the local shrine, inscribed with the child's name, and returned to the shrine after the first-food ceremony. For this reason, we do not provide pebbles at our establishment.

There are various opinions on the order of serving dishes, and there is no single correct answer, but the general order is as follows. For item 6, the grilled dish, our restaurant serves tamagoyaki (rolled omelette).

(1) Red rice (2) Clear soup (3) Sea bream (4) Simmered dish (5) Pickled plum (6) Grilled dish (7) Red rice (8) Clear soup

After making them pretend to eat as described above, the ritual concludes.
